Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, The Capital City Pediatric Asthma Clinic includes spaces such as and entry, lobby area, sixteen exam/consult rooms, a pharmacy, and a therapeutic garden. To make the clinic more child friendly, bright colors such as: blue, green, orange, red, and tans are used throughout the space, capturing the attention of the children and their families. Research shows blue, green, orange, and red have positive healing benefits on patients, especially children. These colors help lower blood pressure, infections, improve weak lungs, and bronchitis. Natural elements such as wood are also used throughout space making it feel more home-like and make the space feel mature and not child-like for the older patients. Artwork is used throughout the space, in all the exam rooms, keeping the children distracted as they are getting a checkup. Natural artwork is used throughout the clinic. Wayfinding is used in several ways, helping patients and their families easily find their way around space. Different colors, along with graphics and numbers will help ease the stress of finding where patients need to go. Where natural light cannot enter, LED lighting will be used in its place, creating bright lit areas that still feel warm. General lighting, task, and ambient light will be used throughout the clinic creating different layers of light. Biophilic elements are incorporated to bring in more natural elements and help patients heal faster and overall feel connected to the space around them. The outdoor garden is another space where patients and their families can go relax and reconnect with nature.
