Hello!

My name is Katie Hathaway.  Originally I am from Minneapolis, MN. Currently, I am a 4th year  student in the accredited Interior Design Program at North Dakota State University. While majoring in Interior Design, I am  pursuing a minor in Business Administration. When I applied to NDSU I applied as an architecture major but after some research and informational interviews I decided to switch to Interior Design and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

My Story

I am from Champlin, MN, 30 minutes north of Minneapolis, MN. I am from a small family of 4 with an older brother and a black lab. I am fortunate to have the family that I have, we are close and supportive of one another. My family has supported me through all of my endeavors whether that be playing  sports,  deciding what university to attend, and trying new things. Some hobbies that I enjoy are: working out, cooking, traveling to new places, spending time on the water, and spending time with family and friends.

Ever since I was little I was always asking my mom if I could redecorate my room, whether that be rearranging my furniture, asking for new decorations, or begging my mom to paint a design on my bedroom walls, which graciously she did twice. Growing up it never crossed my mind that interior design was a career that I could go into. The first real experience that I had with interior design was when my parents remodeled our kitchen and living room, it blew my mind how a space can be completely transformed and seeing it happen right before my eyes. It was from this experience, I knew I wanted to transform spaces and have an impact on people's lives.

While I have lived in Minnesota my whole  life, my dream is to move to South Carolina and work for a residential firm in Charleston. My mom is from the East Coast, growing up my family was constantly traveling to the East Coast. While visiting the East Coast I fell in love with the architecture, it is beautiful and a lot different than the architecture and design I am use to seeing in Minnesota and North Dakota. My ultimate dream is to design water front homes. If I end up staying in Minnesota I would still want to work with a residential firm designing waterfront homes.
